I. Soulmate 04:36
Watching people passing by, at an outdoor cafe Catching up on morning news while waiting for the day By happenstance, I take a glance, at a patron nearby She looks at me, eye to eye, yes could be the one You and me against the world, walking hand-in-hand There's a feeling deep inside, that I can’t understand A once in a lifetime moment, this is truly love I have found my true soulmate, now life can carry on Stirring patterns in her latte, in the shape of a heart She motions to me, come on over, I'm shaking as I start Our eyes are locked in conversation wanting not to leave Living in a perfect moment, her signals are received You and me against the world, walking hand-in-hand There's a feeling deep inside, that I can’t understand A once in a lifetime moment, this is truly love I have found my true soulmate, now life can carry on My heart is filled with joy at last, now you are finally here You say you have to go away, but promise to return one day You and me against the world, walking hand-in-hand There's a feeling deep inside, that I can't understand A once in a lifetime moment, this is truly love I have found my true soulmate, now life can carry on You and me against the world, walking hand-in-hand There's a feeling deep inside, that I can't understand A once in a lifetime moment, this is truly love I have found my true soulmate, now life can carry on

Lying here awake As the rain keeps falling in the dark The wind blows the weakened leaves from the tree Streetlights flicker on and off As the lightning flashes, thunder crashes down Will I ever find my rest? I wait for you but there is no call I pray that you are safe and sound tonight The thunder crash stops my beating heart I need you here, but we're miles apart Some day these storms will end Another night passes The house is empty, it's deadly quiet here I cannot stand to have you gone…this long How do I pass the time When you dominate all the thoughts in my mind Everything I see reminds me of you I wait for you but there is no call I pray that you are safe and sound tonight The thunder crash stops my beating heart I need you here, but we're miles apart Some day these storms will end I wait for you but there is no call I pray that you are safe and sound The thunder crash stops my beating heart I need you here, but we're miles apart Some day these storms will end

Red or Blue 04:44
You're at a party and having a blast Then someone mentions a political newscast Some disagree, the scene turns ugly And you wonder how long it will last You try to separate, but it's too late You get sucked into an endless debate This is why I try, to avoid the outcry And take another sip of wine Doesn't matter if your red, or if you are blue Our friendship's more important, than any political views We can agree to disagree But let's stay friends, no loose ends, and forget about who's Red or Blue We vote these bozos in, we vote these bozos out It doesn't matter who, it's not worth shouting about If you want to stay friends, you learn to avoid certain things Or expect an all-out brawl Hey! I love you guys, I mean I really do Let's talk about the good things, not political miscues Forget CNN or Fox News It's a ratings win when reckless banter ensues Doesn't matter if your red, or if you are blue Our friendship's more important, than any political views We can agree to disagree But let's stay friends, no loose ends, and forget about who's Red or Blue Red or Blue Red or Blue Red or Blue Religion and politics, what a dangerous game It's a kind of mixture that causes friendship drain Whether for or against, it generates angst Don't go there, it might trigger a migraine Friends make life so much more fulfilling Arguments are part of life, but are not friend-ending If you care for someone, it shouldn't end with a gun True friends are too rare Doesn't matter if your red, or if you are blue Our friendship's more important, than any political views We can agree to disagree But let's stay friends, no loose ends, and forget about who's Red or Blue Red or Blue Red or Blue Red or Blue You're at a party (having a blast) Some disagree (scene turns ugly) You try to separate (it's too late) This is why I try (sip of wine) Red or Blue Red or Blue Red or Blue Red or Blue

Can we go to Disney World today It's only 12 hours away Can we invite my best friend to play One a school night? Maybe some other day I love the mind of a nine-year-old So carefree and easy, no troubles at all Let's bottle it up, and share with the world It's the mind of a nine-year-old Can we buy that stuffed animal today But you have 200 other ones already Can I watch a movie tonight Is your room all cleaned up? Well maybe I love the mind of a nine-year-old So carefree and easy, no troubles at all Let's bottle it up, and share with the world It's the mind of a nine-year-old My homework is done, can I go out and play You make me so proud, of course you may They grow up so fast, I wish their innocence remained But I'll treasure these days, always I love the mind of a nine-year-old So carefree and easy, no troubles at all Let's bottle it up, and share with the world It's the mind of a nine-year-old Can we go to Disney World today It's only 12 hours away Can we invite my best friend to play On a weekend, well that's okay I love the mind of a nine-year-old So carefree and easy, no troubles at all Let's bottle it up, and share with the world It's the mind of a nine-year-old I love the mind of a nine-year-old So carefree and easy, no troubles at all Let's bottle it up, and change with the world It's the mind of a nine-year-old

Seconds Away 04:51
We spent a few short days together Now you've got to go Maybe next time, who knows Time is so unkind, minutes fly on by Why can't we make it last I count the days 'til next time I cannot count that high, baby come back inside Stop the clock from chiming Stop the world from spinning I need more time We are seconds away Won't you come back in and stay We are seconds away Only seconds away Some say that time is what you make it But I disagree, I can't make it without away Time and space is empty And that is how I feel This emptiness is for real My love for you is timeless It has no ending, the beginning is now Return to me what matters What matters is you I cannot go on We are seconds away Won't you come back in and stay We are seconds away Only seconds away The night is cold, it's cold and dark I can't deal with us apart Won't you come back in and stay Only seconds away We are seconds away Won't you come back in and stay We are seconds away Only seconds away

Wine Song 03:06
Sippin' on a Chardonnay or a Pinot Grigio A big box 'o wine is the only way to go You can buy me a pricey bottle of red But it all goes down the same way and makes you dizzy in the head Livin' in the South, drinkin' with my friends It's all about the party, where the fun never ends But I'm a little different, when it's refillin' time Don't hand me that beer, I prefer wine Now there's nothing wrong with a good pint of ale I love my beer-drinking friends; I'd bail them out of jail But there's a sophistication, a beer doesn't have Wine in a glass gives this country boy some class Livin' in the South, drinkin' with my friends It's all about the party, where the fun never ends But I'm a little different, when it's refillin' time Don't hand me that beer, I prefer wine Livin' in the South, drinkin' with my friends It's all about the party, where the fun never ends But I'm a little different, when it's refillin' time Don't hand me that beer, I prefer wine Livin' in the South, drinkin' with my friends It's all about the party, where the fun never ends But I'm a little different, when it's refillin' time Don't hand me that beer, I prefer wine Livin' in the South, drinkin' with my friends It's all about the party, where the fun never ends But I'm a little different, when it's refillin' time Don't hand me that beer, I prefer wine

Annabel Lee 05:41
It was many and many a year ago In a kingdom by the sea That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Annabel Lee And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me I was a child and she was a child In this kingdom by the sea But we loved with a love that was more than love I and my Annabel Lee With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven Coveted her and me And this was the reason that, long ago In this kingdom by the sea A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee So that her highborn kinsman came And bore her away from me To shut her up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea The angels, not half so happy in heaven Went envying her and me Yes! - that was the reason (as all men know In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud by night Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we Of many far wiser than we And neither the angels in heaven above Nor the demons down under the sea Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride In the sepulchre there by the sea In her tomb by the sounding sea

Sticky Notes 03:12
Yea, what's up Drop it low, to the floor Are you ready for this? I gotta a problem that I hope you can solve My lady likes writing all over the walls She leaves these little sticky notes all over the place There's so many, I believe she's running out of space I tried to solve it with an iPod Touch But she leaves these little sticky notes just as much I think she is addicted, but I don't have the heart to tell her so Sticky notes here, and sticky notes there I can see those sticky notes most everywhere In every color, in every size She writes a sticky note to remind her to write a sticky note Sticky notes here, and sticky notes there I can see those sticky notes most everywhere In every color, in every size She writes a sticky note to remind her to write a sticky note Stickies in the bathroom, stickies in the bedroom Stickies in the living room and the kitchen too Don't stick it (true dat, true dat) Don't stick it Leave that note alone (that's right) You can remember (yea, yea, yea) Don't write it down (what?) Sticky notes here, and sticky notes there I can see those sticky notes most everywhere In every color, in every size She writes a sticky note to remind her to write a sticky note Sticky notes here, and sticky notes there I can see those sticky notes most everywhere In every color, in every size She writes a sticky note to remind her to write a sticky note Sticky notes here, and sticky notes there I can see those sticky notes most everywhere In every color, in every size She writes a sticky note to remind her to write a sticky note

Beer Run '86 03:38
One Night I had a party, and invited the world to come I bought 30 kegs of beer, put 30 on reserve and I thought that would be enough Well, the party was going great and it was lots of fun until I heard someone exclaim, "Where's the beer" And then they all disappeared and I don't know what happened then I don't know where all of it went I don't know what to do I don't know why I let it go dry I must make a beer run Make a beer run Have you seen a beer run Well we gathered up some money and went into town and took all the beer in sight Then brought it all home and opened it up and I thought, "Everything's gonna be alright" Well, the party was going great and it was lots of fun until I heard someone exclaim, "Where's the Beer?" And they all disappeared and I just threw up my hands and said I don't know where all of it went I don't know what to do I don't know why I let it go dry I must make a beer run Make a beer run Make a beer run Make that beer run Make a beer run Make a beer run Make a beer run, oh I don't know where all of it went I don't know what to do I don't know why I let it go dry I must make a beer run Make a beer run Make a beer run Run away, run away

about

This compilation album represents a few of the songs I've recorded over the past couple of decades (1986-2016). "Reminisce" was written for our neighbor's wedding video's baby photo montage. "Optimism Infinite" was a monumental attempt to record an orchestral piece without a real orchestra. "Drive" was written/programmed/recorded in one evening. It's an instrumental electronic track for those needing driving music (or programming music). "Soulmate" is the first song of a song trilogy. "Miles Apart" is an electro-pop song of longing (2nd song of the trilogy; final song not written yet). Politically tinged "Red or Blue" has a hint of Steely Dan. "Mind of a Nine Year Old" has made more fathers cry than I'd like to admit and is a ballad inspired by my daughter. "Summer Vacation" is a typical kid-pop song (as it was intended) and was written/performed for my daughter's 3rd grade class. "Wine Song" is a party/country song inspired by friend gatherings and discovering I'm one of only a few wine-only drinkers amongst beer drinkers. "Beer Run" is a 2014 remake of a party song I wrote as a college student in the late 80s. "Annabel Lee" (which uses the complete Edgar Allen Poe poem as requested by my niece) has a tiny bit of progressive rock a la Genesis in places. "Seconds Away" and "I Love You That Much" were tracks from an unreleased album in 2003. "Sticky Notes" is a comical ode to my wife's addiction. "This Night" is an instrumental inspired by a cold, winter evening.

about

Michael Barrett Dixon Richmond, Virginia

MBD started composing music and writing songs at age 13. He refined his craft in college (two music composition degrees) and has never looked back.

Most albums blend many genres, so it is difficult to pin one on this musician. A synth is usually not far away, but MBD has dabbled in jazz, electronic, soundtrack, alternative, rock, and pop. You name it, he has probably written something in it.
